- PC-ENCODE
- Version 3.0
-
- There may be times when you would like to keep hidden for security
- reasons a program or text file that you have written. PCENCODE, will easily
- perform this task for you.
-
- OPERATION
-
- ENTERING DRIVE and PATH NAMES
-
- If you are using a floppy disk to store your data, you would enter A: or
- B:; depending on which drive you have your data disk in. If you have your
- data in a directory on the floppy, other than the one that this program is
- in then enter the sub-directory name followed by a back slash. Example:
- B:\DIRECTORY\. If you are using a hard drive, and your data file is in the
- same directory as this program, then enter only the drive letter and a
- semi-colon (Example: C:). If your data is in a different directory other
- then the one that the program is in, then enter the drive and path name
- followed by a back slash (Example: C:\DIRECTORY\).
-
-
- Option one, will allow you to encode a file; and will save the encoded
- file to disk. The first prompt will ask you to enter the name of the file
- that you want to encode. This is followed by a prompt asking you to enter
- the Drive and Path where the file can be found. At the next prompt you
- will enter the PASSWORD that you want to encode the file with. Be sure to
- make a note of this password; as you will need it when you come to decode
- the file. Finally you are asked for the name and Drive\Path that you want
- the encoded file saved to.
-
- The file will then be read by the program, encoded using the password
- that you supplied and saved to disk. When the file has been encoded, you
- will be given the option of having the original file deleted. You will then
- returned to the menu.
-
- Option two will allow you to decode the file and have the results
- sent to either the screen, printer or disk. You must supply the name of the
- encoded file, it's Drive\Path, the password that you used to encode the
- file and if sending the decoded file to disk, the name of the decoded file
- and the Drive and Path on which you want it saved. On completion, you will
- be given the option of having the encoded file deleted. If you had the
- decoded file sent to either the screen or printer, then deleting the file
- will remove your only copy of the file, unless you made a backup. You are
- then returned to the main menu where you can encode or decode another file
- or exit the program.
-
- For further security you may encode the same file more than once.
- Just remember to decode it each time with the passwords that you used to
- encode the file in reverse order.
